The Finals is a new free-to-play first-person shooter developed by the Battlefield team alums at Embark Studios. The Finals focuses on destructible environments and objective-focused warfare between three teams of three. The game is beautiful in motion as the world erupts around you in glorious destruction. Play it at its best and take the burden off your hardware with a GeForce NOW Powered by CloudGG Ultra membership with RTX 3080 performance.
Does anyone else fondly remember the beautiful period around 2009 – 2013, when having a destructible environment was enough of a reason to buy a game? Annihilating enemy fortresses in Red Faction Guerrilla or levelling the playing field very literally in Battlefield 4?
Those were the days. There's a simple joy to a destructible environment done right. Destruction becomes a strategy, playing God and reshaping the world to suit your whim.

Break the world, win the day.
I've never seen a game do better than The Finals, not just in the destruction department but in using destruction as a strategy. It makes sense that much of the team behind this fantastic new title comes from Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline, making them seasoned vets in annihilation.
That's hardly the only department where their expertise shines, though. Brilliant gunplay, expressive animations, and an engaging class system. It all comes together to support a unique objective system and turn it from a gimmick into a genuinely brilliant gameplay loop.
See, the primary game mode in The Finals doesn't just have you competing for kills or capturing a flag. Instead it has three teams warring over a vault. Grabbing it, carrying it to the cashout point, then defending it until the cashout has been completed. The destruction elevates this simple loop, turning every engagement into a complex 3D equation.
Has the defending team built a strong point you'll struggle to break through? Fine! Plant C4 on the floor below and drop the vault down to you. Are both the other teams vying for control? Blow up the floor above them and rain down explosives, gas mines and fire from above.
Wiping a team resets all their respawn timers, so hunting down the last member of a team moves from a convenience to a tactical necessity, as they'll be hunting for the statue's teammates drop on death so that they can bring them back and get back in the fight sooner rather than later. You can even pick up and carry these statues, fleeing dangerous situations to revive your buddies behind cover.

With it's sci-fi gameshow aesthetic, The Finals gets away with such a sense of style and panache.
Then there's the games theme, placing you as contestants in a VR combat gameshow, with live commentary throughout the match, and hoards of cheering fans watching your every move. The fun and style The Finals brings takes it up a notch from dreary, self-serious shooters of the past.
None of that touches the class and specialisation systems, letting you play your way. Whether as a sledgehammer wielding heavy, elbow dropping through ceilings and tackling your enemies off buildings, or as a sniper-equipped light, using your grappling hook or invisibility to rapidly reposition between shots.
The wide variety of weapons, gadgets and abilities lets players mix and match to find the combat style that suits them best, and in each game, you need to quickly acquaint yourself with what your opponents have brought to the field.
What will you bring? The Finals is free-to-play, and honestly, the best time I've had with a free-to-play title since I sank deep into the clutches of League of Legends, so there's no reason not to give it a go! Try it today on GeForce NOW Powered by CloudGG, and play it at its most beautiful with an Ultra membership to take advantage of the low latency and RTX 3080-powered performance.
